THE BOAT INSPECTION
PROGRAM

Organized by Bill Hall this effort
assigns and trains volunteers to man the Public Boat landing and conduct
inspections of boats, trailers, PWCs – in
short, anything that goes into the lake. Please take a turn in providing this
critical help towards keeping Black
Oak Lake
milfoil-free. Check the Inspection Calendar (there’s a link off of our
homepage). There is a brown bin beside the restroom
building and the lock combination is 5454 (our zip code minus the zero). In it
are all the items and instructions you need.
Note that the most important
question in inspections is – “Where was this boat last?”. If it was a milfoil infested lake this would
justify a much more detailed check than if it was not. In Vilas
County milfoil is present in 11 lakes
plus most of the Eagle
River chain. Those eleven
lakes are Arrowhead (aka Little Star), Upper Gresham,
Boot, Lost Lake in St. Germain, North and South Twin,
Silver, Forest, Big Sand and Long in Phelps, and Little St. Germain.
